Breath of Fresh Air - Ceol na Capal

Barbara Gray & Wilbert Garvin Review by Bruce Eder Composer Barbara Gray and bagpipe virtuoso Wilbert Garvin collaborated on this disc of Celtic music, played on Garvin's pipes and Gray's keyboards, with guitars (by Mudd Wallace), viola (by Clifford Lowry), and bones (by Neil Hall), and singing by Norman Richardson; think of acoustic Enya and you've got the picture, all deeply atmospheric and evocative of a long-distant past in the history of civilization. The paired jigs "Chickens in the Yard"/"Early in the Morning" lighten the mood somewhat, as do gentle reveries such as "Driftwood," sandwiched between representations of the ruin of elements of the Celtic legacy and the separation of people from their land.
