CARE

• WASHER AND DRYER SAFE: Before leaving the mill our throws are pre-washed and dried.
• Care: Machine washable and pre-shrunk
• We suggest washing warm and drying gently.
• Without strong detergents and bleaches.
• Machine wash gentle, cool, with mild detergent.
• Line Dry is best, or tumble dry warm.

These rare scarves were silk screened by hand in Japan – back in the 80’s by Kimono makers

Key Material and Quality Details:

FABRIC

• Silk Crepe de Chine: 100% Silk – known for its soft, matte finish, fluid drape, and subtle pebbly texture created by highly twisted yarns.
• Appearance: Unlike shiny satin Crepe de Chine typically has a matte finish with a very subtle, natural luster rather than a high-shine gloss.
• Feel: It is soft, smooth, and lightweight, often described as feeling “supple” against the skin
• Durability: Despite its delicate appearance, the high-twist yarns make it quite durable and snag-resistant compared to other silks.
• Wrinkle Resistance: Due to its weave structure, it resists wrinkling well, making it excellent for travel.

• Silk Chiffon: 100% Silk – known for its soft, matte finish, fluid drape, and subtle pebbly texture created by highly twisted yarns.
• Appearance: Sheer, transparent, and slightly lustrous.
• Texture: Soft to the touch with a subtle, grainy feel due to highly twisted S-twist and Z-twist yarns.

CARE / WASHING INSTRUCTIONS – for ALL SILK garments

Hand-washing silk is the most widely recommended method for washing silk clothing. To freshen and restore silk’s natural shine and softness, you can use a white vinegar rinse. Mix white distilled vinegar with lukewarm water, soak the silk, rinse thoroughly, and dry it out of direct sunlight. This method helps remove residue, neutralize odors, and revive the fabric’s luster. See vinegar wash instructions below.

FIRST WASH

• First few washes of our reactive inks printed scarves
• Use home-made solution of 1/4 cup of vinegar and 1 tsp salt in gallon of cool warm water.
• Submerge the silk scarf/garment in the vinegar solution and gently swirl it for a few minutes.
• Rinse the silk in clean, cool water until all traces of the vinegar are gone.
• Gently roll the garment in a towel to absorb excess water. Do not wring or twist the silk.

IMPORTANT – dry immediately after washing.

• Air Dry – hang to dry or lay flat with no self-overlap

General Care for ALL SILK GARMENTS

• Avoid Hot Water: Hot water can damage the silk fibers and cause shrinking.
• No Dryer: High heat in a dryer can permanently damage silk.
• No Harsh Chemicals: Avoid using bleach, fabric softeners, or other harsh chemicals.
• Best to use steam – but with caution – you do not want to shrink or burn the gentle silk fabric
• Ironing: If you need to iron, use very low heat and a steam iron on back.
• Stains: For stains, spot-treat with a diluted solution of detergent and cool water.
